Barry D. Williams – Class of 1953 – April 26, 2015
Barry D. Williams, 80, of Winslow, passed away at 9:46 p.m. April 26, 2015, at his home, surrounded by his family and loved ones after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
Barry was born April 2, 1935 to Leo and Marcia (Seed) Williams.
He was a graduate of Winslow High School, Class of 1953.
On April 12, 1958, Barry married Nelta Fenneman, of Holland, and she preceded him in death in 2004.
After Barry graduated from Winslow High School in 1953, he attended Purdue University, obtaining a degree in animal husbandry. After college he served in the Army in Fort Carson, Colo. Upon discharge from the service, Barry and family returned to Indiana, where he obtained his master’s degree in secondary education from Indiana State University. His teaching career with Vigo Elementary School began in 1963 and lasted 33 years.
During summers off from school, Barry worked as a house painter all over Pike and surrounding counties. After retiring from classroom, he continued to teach his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, sharing his love of home and nature.
Surviving are his children, Kim (Chris) Parish, of Flat Rock, IL, Renee Burns, and Andrea (Randy) Parker, both of Vincennes, Scott Williams, of Wiinslow, and Stephanie Keith, of Petersburg, IN; brothers Richard Williams and Mike Williams, both of Winslow, IN; and sister, Jill Mason, of Cummings, GA.
Barry is blessed with nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his friend and companion, Lois Corn.
Barry was preceded in death by his daughter, Patricia Williams; a brother, Phillip Williams; and son-ini-law, Jerry Burns.
Visitation will be Wednesday, April 29, 2015, from 4-8 p.m. at the Curtis Funeral Home, with funeral services Thursday, April 30, 2015, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Sunset Cemetery in Winslow, IN.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Allzheimer’s, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
