Services for Prentice R. Corn, 71, Logansport, Indiana were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 28, 2006 in Miami Baptist Church, Adamsboro.
He died at 2:20 a.m. Sunday, June 25, 2006, in WoodBridge Health Campus.
Born Jan. 8, 1935, in Pike County, he was the son of Forrest Sr. and Bessie Bryant Corn. He was married Jan. 16, 1954, in Lafayette, to Miriam J. Shepler, who survives.
Mr. Corn attended Purdue University and was a retired design engineer.
Prentice worked as a design engineer during his professional career and developed several patents, some of which were for the Ford Motor Company. During the onslaught of life-threatening cancers for more than 30 years, Prentice’s love of life and positive attitude were an inspiration to all who knew him. He never met a challenge he wouldn’t accept and giving up was never an option for him. Prentice’s determination was an inspiration to all.
He enjoyed not only a successful career, but an active life of golfing, bowling, cheering on athletic endeavors of his beloved Purdue University and most of all, spending quality time with his family. In earlier years Prentice obtained a private pilot’s license, and loved flying at every opportunity. He also enjoyed “tinkering” with new inventions and ideas throughout his career and private life.
Prentice was a member of Miami Baptist Church in Adamsboro for 50 years. He served as a superintendent, deacon, Sunday school teacher, and song leader as he enjoyed serving his Lord and fellow man. He and his wife, Miriam, enjoyed over 52 years of marriage and a happy, eventful life together.
Prentice’s faith throughout his life was a beacon to his family and friends and an inspiration to all who witnessed his love of life and determination to wrest victory from every adversity as he strove to enjoy every day that was given to him.
He also was a member of the Elk’s Lodge #66.
Prentice enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Also surviving are one daughter, Candace Lucas and her husband, Dave, Chalmers; one son, Tim Corn and his wife, Donna, Logansport; two brothers, Paul Corn and his wife, Billie, Rocky Mount,Va., and Forrest Corn Jr. and his wife, Audra, Brownsburg; one sister, Fern Crecelius and her husband, Burt, Bartow, Fla.; six grandchildren, Ryan Bell and his wife, Maggie, Indianapolis, Mark Bell and his wife, Melissa, West Point, Michael Lucas, Denver, Christy Corn, Greenville, S.C., Kyle Corn, Peoria, Ill., and Evan Corn and his wife, Nicole, Chalmers; five great-grandchildren, Kailee Corn, Bryce Corn, Brenden Corn, Brady Bell and Sierra Childers; and several nieces and nephews.
Pastors Jan Hobbs and Paul Sotherland will officiate at the services. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery, Logansport.
Friends called from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 27, 2006 in Gundrum Funeral Home and one hour before services Wednesday, June 28th in the church.
