Carla Rae Harper Butcher 71, of Indianapolis, beloved mother, grandmother, coach and friend passed away February 18, 2004. She was the daughter of Vonda and Thomas Harper who preceded her in death. Born May 3, 1952 in Winslow, Indiana, Mrs. Butcher graduated from Winslow High School in 1950. She married William G. Butcher on July 28, 1950.
Mrs. Butcher worked at Unisys and Gammons Metal. She was a league bowler in the Indianapolis Women’s Bowling Association (IWBA) for 44 years and a member of the city championship handicap team 2002. She was selected IWBA Secretary of the Year 1980 and received the IWBA Grand Duchess Award 2003. Mrs. Butcher was a Youth Director for 12 years at North Eastwood Bowl and a Youth Director at All Star Bowl for 15 years. She was a coach and certified instructor for many years.
Friends called from 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday, February 21, 2004, at Hendryx Mortuary, Cumberland. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, February 22, 2004, at the mortuary. Burial was Monday, February 23, 2004, at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband, William G. “Butch” Butcher; sister, Marilyn (Jack) Scurlock; daughters, Terri (Tom) Kennedy, LeAnn (Bruce) McClamroch, Kristi (Justin) Hromek; five grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; one niece and one nephew. Memorial contributions may be made to the Indianapolis Youth Bowling Association.
