Frank Elden Evans, 77, of Evansville, formerly of Petersburg, IN, went to be with our Lord and Savior on May 10, 2012.
He was born October 13, 1934 to Elden and Hazel Evans of Winslow. He was preceded by his wife, Betty Evans, in 2008. He was also preceded in death by his loving parents; a sister, Helen Cooper; a brother-in-law, Joseph Cooper and niece, Rita Morrison.
He was a graduate of Winslow High School, Class of 1954. Frank was on the 1954 Winslow Eskimos basketball team that won Winslow’s last sectional and regional in 1954.
Frank attended the First Baptist Church of Petersburg. He was a retired miner and a member of UMWA. He was an avid sports fan and loved reminiscing of his days as a member of the Winslow Eskimo basketball team. One of his greatest enjoyments in the last several years was talking about the good old days with dear friends, Red and Fred, as well as the many hours spent talking with Junior.
Surviving are daughters and sons-in-law, Rhea and Jeffery Teague of Loogootee, Leah and Mark Dressler of Evansville, Sandra and John Tichenor of Petersburg; a son and daughter-in-law, William Frank and Margaret Evans of Petersburg; a sister, Arlene Harker of Washington; 11 grandchildren and families, Mrs. Kyndra Chandler, Mrs. Karrie Napiert, Myah Dressler, Timothy Dressler, Andrea Simmons, Jason Tichenor, Whitney Evans, Maegan Evans, Josh scott, and Adron Scott; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Visitation was Monday, May 14 from 4 to 8 p.m. and from 8 a.m. until services at the funeral home.
Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at Harris Funeral Home with Dr. Charles Baxter officiating. Entombment was at Alexander Memorial Park Cemetery in Evansville.
