Herschel J. Hurt 91, of Decatur, IL was born on March 29, 1925 and passed away on Monday, October 10, 2016, in his daughter’s residence in West Point, Indiana.
A service to celebrate Herschel’s life was held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 15, 2016, at Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home, Mt. Zion. Burial was in North Fork Cemetery. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m., Saturday morning until service time.

Herschel was born March 29, 1925, in Winslow, IN the son of Hazel M. Hopkins. He was raised by his grandparents Sampson and Florence Hopkins.
He was a graduate of Winslow High School, Class of 1944.
He served in the US Navy and was a W.W. II veteran. He married Olive Ethel Selby on July 17, 1948. She preceded him in death on December 8, 2013. He was retired from Caterpillar having worked as a Line Inspector. Herschel had a passion for golfing and bowling. He was an avid Cardinals baseball fan and loved to play Euchre.
Surviving is his daughter: Brenda C. Clawson and her husband Greg of West Point, IN.; son: Richard “Larry” Hurt and his wife Barbara of Tyler TX.; seven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren also survive.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and one sister.
