Walter O. Eversoll – Class of 1936 – August 8, 2015
Walter O, Eversoll, 96, of Petersburg, IN died at 9:50 p.m. at Amber Manor Care Center, Petersburg, IN.
He was born Aug 21, 1918, while his parents were visiting his mother’s family the Sugar Ridge community in Pike County. He was the son of Fred and dDale (Falls) Oversell and brother of Wayne Eversoll. At the age of four months, he and his family rode a train back to their ranch in Oklahoma, where they lived, and raised cattle and grain until the mid 1930’s when the Dust B0wl hit. At that time, his father sold the ranch, loaded the cattle and horses on a train and moved the family back to his mother’s family homestead in Patoka Township, Pike County, IN.
In 1941, he married the love of his life, Estelyn Hume, to whom he was married 74 years. During this time, he was a dairy and grain farmer and an active soil conservationist. He enjoyed spending time with is family, grandchildren and great-grand-children, and continued being active in farming and tending his kid’s lawns until just recently.
He was a member of Petersburg First United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Estelle; sons, Adrian (Chana) Eversoll, of Bloomington, IN, Gary (Peggy) Eversoll, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Dennis (Annette) Eversell and Twyla (Dave) Flint, both of Petersburg; a sister-in-law, Arbutus (Wayne) Oversell, of Petersburg; 14 grandchildren; and 22 great-grand-children.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday,August 12 at Harris Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thurday, Aug 13, 2015, at Petersburg First United Methodist Church, with Rev Leon Pomeroy officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Hills Cemetery, Petersburg.
