Deforrest W. (Wrex) Simmons of Winslow, Indiana passed away May 5, 2012 at 9:31 p.m. at Memorial Hospital in Jasper. He was born in Muren, IN, August 21, 1936 to Clarence and Arbutis (Sharp) Simmons. He was a member of the Winslow High School Class of 1954. He formerly worked at Oakland City Plastics, Keensburg Coal Mine, and was retired from Old Ben Coal Mine. He was a member of the Petersburg Moose Lodge, VFW, and Oakland City American Legion. Survivors are four sons, Wrex Dewayne Simmons and Bradley Shane Simmons, both of Augusta, IN Russell Kent Simmons and Kendall Keith Simmons, both of Winslow, IN; his fiancee, Cinda Horton; a brother, Larry Simmons, of Winslow; five sisters, Dixie (Gerald) Hale, of Portage, Linda Rowe of Washington, Connie (Tom) Lee of Winslow, Vickie Colvin of Otwell, and Rhonda (Brett) Warner of Petersburg; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence Simmons, and former wives, Audrey Faye (Russell) Simmons and Angela (DeJarnett) Simmons. Funeral services were Wednesday, May 12, 2012 at 1:30 P.M. EDT at Harris Funeral Home, Petersburg with the Rev Larry Barr officiating. Visitation was from 2 until 8 P.M., Tuesday, May 08, 2012 and from 8:00 a.m. to service time at the funeral home. Burial was in Augusta Cemetery, Augusta, Indiana. |
