LaVerne Pauline Trusty Elshoff, age 90, died peacefully on Sunday, October 6, 2013 at her home in rural Huntingburg with her family by her side. She was born March 17, 1923 in Crawford County, Indiana to Paul James and Ida Mae (Hall) Trusty. She married Alvin D. Elshoff on November 7, 1953 in a double wedding with her sister Lois at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Huntingburg, IN. LaVerne was a retired Medical Assistant, having worked for Dr. Sohrab Amini for over 35 years. She graduated from Winslow High School, Class of 1942, and worked in a defense plant in Indianapolis during World War II. She then worked as a telephone operator in Boonville before beginning her career as a Medical Assistant. LaVerne was a dedicated and faithful member of the Huntingburg United Methodist Church. She served as a Sunday school teacher, Youth Leader, and Vacation Bible school teacher. She was a member of United Methodist Women and the Christian Homebuilders Sunday school class and was involved in numerous volunteer organizations including Dubois County 4-H, Tri-Cap Hospice, Shared Abundance, Maple Grove Historic Campground, Santa Claus Historic Campground, American Legion Auxiliary, Holland School PTO, Dubois County Farm Bureau, and Dubois County Homemakers Extension Club. She and her husband traveled to Montserrat for a Work Mission Trip in 1990. LaVerne’s hobby was reading her Bible and praying for family and friends. She baked and delivered food to many neighbors, friends, and shut-ins. She is survived by: her devoted husband of 60 years, Alvin D. Elshoff of Huntingburg; two daughters, Elizabeth (husband, Russ) Friedman of Huntingburg and Martha (husband, David) Wooden of Franklin, IN; one son, James Elshoff of Holland; one sister, Lois Tevault of Huntingburg; two brothers, Lester Trusty of Huntingburg and Charles Trusty of Jeffersonville, IN; six grandchildren, Amanda, Kathryn, Daniel, Aaron, Christina, and Jason; and four great grandchildren, Liam, Keatan, Anderson, and Alivia. She was preceded in death by: one brother, Leon Trusty; and one sister, Lorraine Gentry. Funeral services for LaVerne Elshoff will be held at 10:30 a.m., E.D.T., on Thursday, October 10, 2013 at the Huntingburg United Methodist Church located at 416 N. Main Street in Huntingburg. The Reverend Paula Young Mayberry will officiate. There will be a private burial. Friends may call for visitation at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg from 2:00-8:00 p.m., E.D.T., on Wednesday, October 9, 2013; and also at the Church from 9:30-10:30 a.m., Thursday morning, the day of the funeral.
